Stop H: Marble Works
337 S. Main St
This building, known as the Marble Works was built in 1870 by Joseph May. May was a stonecutter, who operated his monument business in this building. An interesting note about the construction of the house… The main floor inside slopes towards the street allowing Mr. May to roll his finished stonework from the shop to an awaiting wagon outside the front door. If you go inside, you will see that the floor still slopes as it did when built. The lovely Corinthian columns and ornate lintels above the windows on the second floor which were made by Mr. May and served as a testament to his craft.
Our next stop is a few steps south at 401 S. Main. Select stop "I" when you arrive.
